A Film Festival With a Soul
DokuFest is more than a film festival — it’s a cultural movement that transforms the historic city of Prizren into a vibrant hub of cinema, creativity, and conversation, bringing together filmmakers, artists, and audiences from around the world to celebrate stories that matter.
DokuFest, the International Documentary and Short Film Festival, stands as Kosovo’s largest and most renowned film festival, recognized as a vital cultural event across Southeast Europe. Each summer, Prizren’s historic center bursts to life as cinemas and open-air screening venues showcase more than 200 carefully curated films from across the globe, drawing diverse audiences and creating a one-of-a-kind cinematic atmosphere.
Founded in 2002 with the vision of reviving cinema and enriching the cultural landscape of Prizren, DokuFest has grown into a festival of international standing. Its rise has been marked by key milestones: since 2019, it has held the honor of being a BAFTA-qualifying festival for short films, and in 2022, it earned the prestigious role of nominating festival for the European Film Academy, cementing its influence on the global film stage.
Beyond screenings, DokuFest offers nine days packed with dynamic programming — from thought-provoking documentary photo exhibitions and lively debates to hands-on master classes and unforgettable music performances. The festival is not only a celebration of filmmaking but also a platform for dialogue, learning, and artistic exchange, shaping conversations around cinema, culture, and society throughout the region and beyond.
