The Human Surge 3

In his newest feature – a “discontinued continuation” of The Human Surge – Williams advances through vast and expansive cinematic wanderings, this time following three groups of friends from Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Peru in landscapes both real and surreal, constantly defying logic as he returns to his companion themes of exploring social connections by way of global travel – both physical and psychic – and the technologies that are part and parcel of our existences. Playing with the fluidities of gender, language and the notion of borders both hard and soft, Williams focuses on shared human experiences – love, sex, loss, play, disorientation, and elliptical dialogue – creating a stunning collective dreamscape. The film was shot by DoP Victoria Pereda using an Insta360 Titan, a spherical camera outfitted with eight lenses capturing 11K video. Williams has described the Insta as “a machine, a human, and an alien”.
