Hold Still chronicles the relentless pursuit of truth and justice by Kurdish lawyer Erdal Kuzu and the families of seven people forcibly disappeared during the intense Kurdish conflict in 1995 in Southeastern Turkey. The narrative unfolds through two interweaved timelines. The first timeline transports us back to October 29th, 1995, when the tragic events occurred, and then progresses to 2012 and beyond, when the victims' remains were finally discovered. The second timeline begins in 2018, following Kuzu and Abdülaziz Altınkaynak, father of one of the disappeared, as they navigate through each court hearing.
Director
Berke Baş, producer/director studied political sciences at Bogazici University, Istanbul and received her masters degree in media studies at New School for Social Research, New York. Her films deal with Turkey’s pressing social and political issues as wide ranging as illegal migration (In Transit, 2005), women’s political rights (What a Beautiful Democracy!, 2008), Armenian orphans of 1915 (hush!/La Chanson de Nahide, 2009) and trials of manhood (Concrete Park, 2010).
