It was celebrated as a miracle when the military in Myanmar finally passed on power to Aung San Suu Kyi after her landslide victory in the elections of 2015. However, the story behind the scenes has seen little daylight and the seeds for the recent catastrophe in Rakhine, that has caused 600.000 refugees and left many dead, have been sown long ago.
Director
Karen Stokkendal Poulsen works with political processes asa key interest and has experience with international relations through a master in political science as well as tasks for the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She holds an MA from Goldsmiths College, London University, MA Screen Documentary. Her first film was a portrait of Danish leftwing top politician Villy Søvndal who experienced an almost explosive popularity a few years ago in the Danish opposition, and who is now Denmarks Minister of Foreign Affairs. THE AGREEMENT is Karen´s first film for an international audience.
