Tragic events of a boat captain trying to collect a debt to save his fleet of boats, as remembered by his ten year old son.
Johnny was born as Nan Ma in Shanghai and immigrated to North America at age of ten. After an early career in corporate finance and textile fashion, he made the move to filmmaking. In a short time, Johnny has accomplished impressive international recognition including a National Board of Review Student Grant, DGA student award and RBC Emerging filmmaker award at 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. His latest work “Grand Canal” (2013) is a thesis graduating work at the Columbia University MFA program.
