A flag sporting a skull and crossbones flutters over the Bulgarian beach of Karadere. The legend has it that somewhere here the 19th century pirates hid the treasure stolen from the Ottoman galleys. Today, self-proclaimed descendants of the privateers from the past, outsiders living on the sidelines of the capitalist society, dream about it. One day their freedom, dreams and unconventional lifestyle will be confronted with real danger: a developer is planning to build a health resort on a wild Black Sea beach. Will the pirates be able to protect their treasure?
Svetoslav is a director and DOP whose short documentaries, experimental films and audio-visual projects have been screened across Europe and selected in the official competitions of festivals in Athens, Madrid, Moscow, Dublin, Sarajevo, Bratislava, Venice. His work has participated in the Venice Biennial, and received awards in Skopje and Yerevan. THE LAST BLACK SEA PIRATES is his feature film debut.
